The major purpose of the Utah Golf Association is to promote and protect the interest of golf and golfers within the state.

Some of the major responsibilities of the UGA include providing and monitoring USGA Handicaps for all 30,000 members; conducting major tournaments, including the Utah State Amateur Championship, which is the oldest continuously held golf tournament in the world; rating and measuring all Utah golf courses for handicap purposes; promoting and sponsoring junior and senior golf activities; preserving Utah's golf history through the Utah Golf Hall of Fame, Library, and Museum; and promoting the game through public information efforts, including support for Fairways Magazine.
