The Western Golf Association, founded in 1899, has conducted the Western Open and Western Amateur golf championships since 1899 and the Western Junior since 1914.

In 1930, the WGA began administering the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship Program.

Today, more than 500 member clubs, 34,000 WGA Par Club members and 100,000 golfers in the WGA Bag Tag Program support the Evans Scholars Foundation, the nation's largest individually funded scholarship program. The program also is supported by 23 affiliated golf associations and proceeds from the Cialis Western Open, Chicago's annual PGA TOUR stop in Chicago.
