Golf in Sweden is both old and new. Old as a pastime, new as a competition sport. The object of these pages is to inform all readers of the status of golf in Sweden. It is the story of how a small country with a limited playing season in a rather short period of time reached the highest level of golf. A fascinating but true story. It is also a story of: - golf as a sport for the youngsters with 20 percent or some 90 000 players at or under the age of 20; - golf as a sport for women with 30 percent or some 160 000 players female, a higher figure than in most other countries; - golf as a sport for club members with the vast majority of golfers a member of one of the more than 480 clubs recognized by the Swedish Golf Federation.
